Cambodia and Cuba have taken a significant step towards enhancing their tourism sectors by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. The agreement was inked in Siem Reap province, with the Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak and Cuba’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra, representing their respective countries.

This MoU establishes a framework for collaboration between the tourism authorities of both nations. It is designed to promote the development of tourism, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience, and broaden Cambodia’s tourism outreach into Latin American markets, where Cuba holds a strong presence. The agreement is rooted in the principles of equality and mutual benefit, aiming to create new opportunities for tourism cooperation between the two countries.

The diplomatic relationship between Cambodia and Cuba dates back to 1960, with both nations maintaining longstanding bilateral ties. The signing of this MoU marks another milestone in their cooperative efforts, reflecting a mutual commitment to enhancing economic and cultural exchanges through tourism.

By facilitating closer ties in the tourism sector, both countries anticipate not only an increase in visitor numbers but also a richer exchange of cultural and professional expertise. This agreement is seen as a strategic move to leverage each country’s unique strengths in tourism, potentially leading to increased economic benefits and stronger international partnerships.
