Green Pea Hummus: Boosts Market Demand for Protein-Rich, Versatile Dips

If you’re looking to boost your protein and fiber intake effortlessly, consider making green pea hummus. This homemade spread blends boiled chickpeas and green peas with a mix of herbs, spices, and healthy fats. It’s a versatile option that can enhance the nutritional value of your meals with minimal effort.

A single serving of this hummus delivers roughly 12–13 grams of protein, in addition to fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Its creamy consistency makes it an excellent substitute for traditional condiments like ketchup or mayonnaise. Whether you’re adding it to sandwiches, wraps, dosa, or paratha, it serves as a nutritious and flavorful addition.

Here’s how you can make green pea hummus. You’ll need 1 cup each of boiled chickpeas and steamed green peas, 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds, and a handful each of coriander and mint leaves. Add 1–2 green chillies, 1 garlic clove, ½ teaspoon of cumin powder, salt, the juice of half a lemon, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and 2–3 ice cubes. Start by steaming the green peas for about 7–8 minutes until they’re tender.

Next, combine the steamed peas and boiled chickpeas in a blender with coriander, mint, sesame seeds, green chilli, garlic, cumin powder, salt, lemon juice, olive oil, and ice cubes. Blend these ingredients until you achieve a smooth and creamy texture. If the mixture feels too thick, you can add a little water and blend again. Once smooth, transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and optionally garnish with red chilli powder, pomegranate seeds, or a few whole chickpeas.

This green pea hummus serves as a delicious spread or dip to complement your daily meals. It’s perfect for sandwiches, wraps, frankies, dosa, parathas, or even as a dip for fresh vegetables. While green peas alone may not offer all essential amino acids, when combined with other protein-rich foods, they can contribute to a well-rounded diet. This recipe is a simple way to make everyday meals more nutritious without making them seem overly health-focused.
