In a significant escalation, Ukraine has reportedly executed one of its largest drone offensives against Russia since the war’s inception, according to Russian reports. The attack resulted in a fire at a warehouse near Moscow and claimed six lives. Russia’s Defence Ministry stated that they intercepted 1,478 Ukrainian drones within a single day, marking the highest number reported over such a period. These figures remain unverified by independent sources.
Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, revealed that approximately 600 drones targeted the Moscow area, with 201 being neutralized. The assault led to the death of one individual in the region. The Wildberries distribution center near Podolsk, located about 25 miles from Moscow’s center, experienced a significant fire. The warehouse, spanning around 250,000 square meters, suffered extensive damage, as confirmed by Ukraine’s military. Ukraine has been increasingly deploying long-range drones to hit Russian military and economic targets far from the frontline, with Ukrainian authorities alleging that several Wildberries facilities have been involved in military logistics.
These developments underscore Ukraine’s enhanced long-range strike capabilities, even as Russia continues to utilize drones and missiles to bombard Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Concurrently, Russian strikes have led to the deaths of at least seven individuals in Ukraine, including in the regions of Kryvyi Rih and Sumy. In Kyiv, a missile strike injured six people and ignited fires, affecting a significant book market where numerous businesses reportedly lost all their inventory.
In a related incident, a Spanish fighter jet, part of a NATO patrol, intercepted and shot down a suspected Russian drone that had entered Romanian airspace, as reported by NATO officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of persistently targeting civilian infrastructure, claiming that over the past week, Moscow launched more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided bombs, and 62 missiles against Ukraine.
This intensification of long-range weapon use by both sides raises the potential for increased casualties and destruction away from the immediate combat zones, highlighting the evolving nature of the conflict.
